“Artists and scientists collaborated in classrooms, labs, and on-site in desert drylands ecosystems. We spent time experiencing the landscape from each other's perspective, opening pathways for new insight and experiences. Creative examinations of the landscape were compiled in sketchbooks/research journals, used to examine the world around us more closely." - Heidi Hogden

What did we do?

Each collaborator received a kit containing a mini watercolor sketchbook, watercolor pencils, and a variety of drawing materials. Students were encouraged to take time to slow down and engage deeply with their surroundings. The focus was on the process of observation, drawing, and reflection, fostering a mindful approach to landscape study through direct, hands-on experimentation.
